Conjugated Antibodies

Conjugated antibodies are antibodies fused to molecules that emit an identifiable signal. The presence of these molecules allows the detection or amplification of the antibody’s binding to the antigen. A wide variety of molecules can be conjugated to antibodies. The most commonly used for conjugation are fluorophores, enzymes or biotin.

The choice of conjugate depends on the technique to be performed; antibodies conjugated to fluorophores are excellent candidates for microscopy techniques that require the detection of multiple proteins in parallel. Meanwhile, in experiments where the detection of low-expression proteins is needed, biotin-conjugated antibodies are the most suitable due to their high sensitivity and signal amplification.

Additionally, in recent years, drug-conjugated antibodies have been developed, offering a broad range of applications in targeted therapies.
